Reverie: Lamento

As the centrepiece of their new programme, Choral Reimaginings, Reverie presents new commission, ‘The Turn’, by Ben Rowarth. The new work reflects upon, interacts with and explores the harmonic possibilities of Monteverdi’s ‘Lamento D’Arianna’, the only surviving fragment of his opera ‘L’Arianna’.

Complementing the new commission, this programme explores outstanding contemporary work by Sven-David Sandström and Judith Bingham, in particular Bingham’s ‘Darkness is no Darkness’, reflecting on harmonic themes in Samuel Wesley’s ‘Thou Wilt Keep Him’. and Sandstorm’s ‘Hear My Prayer’, the ending of which is altered as a dissonant reflection on Purcell’s original work.

Set in the hauntingly beautiful surroundings of the Chapel Royal of St. Peter ad Vincula at the Tower of London, Reverie look forward to welcoming you to what is sure to be a memorable evening.
